Since the production of hybrid car models began, not many cars have made great sales except the Toyota Prius hybrid. It is the objective of Hyundai to see that more people embrace hybrid models especially the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq. This model was first seen taking a test drive under heavy camouflage in early 2015. Since then, more people have gained interest in this model that will have an all electric power train and will incorporate the better known hybrid and plug-in hybrid abilities. The model already made its official debut to the public eye in South Korea and the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is also set to appear during the New York Auto Show later this year.
2017 Hyundai Ioniq Redesign
The official details about the exterior of this model as published by the manufacturer are quite scarce. Nonetheless, it is indisputable that this model is bold, sporty, fashionable and modernized. The model has an overall design that resembles that of the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. It has relatively short overhangs and a hatchback design towards the rear. Tall rear fenders enhance the sportiness of this model. At the frontage, the nose is rather conventional as is the windshield. Since the manufacturer’s aim was to optimize the aerodynamic abilities of this model, it comes with exterior panels that can flex. This gives the model a drag coefficient of 0.24 that is quite impressive. So as to enhance the exterior appearance, the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq comes with two tone wheels, inserts and chrome lower window trim.
The interior of this model is also very impressive. When compared to the preceding edition, this model has a better center stack and console that contains additional buttons and switches. The dashboard, instrument cluster, bright blue inserts and a flat bottomed steering wheel remain unchanged. The infotainment system is easily accessible to the driver via the 7 inch touch-screen display. 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Engine
The engine options that are availed are the hybrid, plug-in hybrid (both running on gasoline), and the full electric option. These options make this model unique as it is the first to possess them all. In the hybrid option, a 1.6 liter Kappa GDi gasoline engine will work together with an electric motor with the ability to produce 42.8 horses. The engine will yield 104 horsepower and tolerate 108 pound feet of torque so together, the total power production will be 139 horsepower and 195 pound feet of torque. The power will be transmitted using a 6 speed dual clutch gearbox. Although the mileage is yet to be given, the model is definitely more economical on fuel and consequently friendlier to the environment. On the electric motor, the model will run at a speed of 75mph (120km/h). For additional efficiency, the model has a lithium-ion polymer battery pack instead of the conventional nickel-metal option. On a single charge, the model is expected to travel a distance of up to 100 miles.
2017 Hyundai Ioniq Release Date and Price
The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq already made a debut into the limelight. The official release for retail is yet to be confirmed. This model is set to compete with the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. The cost of retail is currently estimated at about $20,000.
